Facts about Gerbera...

Image
Gerbera are easy to care for. They can be grown both indoors and outdoors, in pots or directly on the ground. However there are a few things that needs to be taken care of. I will be sharing a few tips for growing gerberas. Soil: I have been using mixture of soil and cow dung manure, and a bit of leaf mulch and believe me, the plants are doing great. But we need to make sure the potting mix is well drained. Light: The plant needs to be kept in direct sunlight for heavy blooms in spring, however with increasing summer  temperatures the plant requires some afternoon shade. Water:  Water your gerberas thoroughly but  make sure the excess water must drain out or else soggy potting mix will lead to root rot. Water your gerberas only when you see the top soil is dry ( do not overwater your gerbs ) Pruning: Remove the dead flower heads and the dead leaves.( you may sun dry the leaves and add them as mulch). Removing the dead flower heads encourages new buds and new growth. Fertili

Bauhinia and Mandevilla

These days my Bauhinia acuminata (most commonly known as dwarf orchid) plant or rather a tree now, (as it has grown to a good height) is blooming profusely. Every morning i visit the tree I find it full of sweet smelling flowers and it is a total bliss to watch this, believe me. I bought this plant at least two years ago and potted it in a big size container, I was very disappointed with its growth as the plant seemed to be very weak. hence I decided to plant it on the ground, I planted it in my backyard and within a year the plant came up with new growths. In the first year the plant did not flower well but this year the plant seems to be in a different mood  ;) . Below are the few clicks from my garden.     Here comes another surprise for me. I bought this mandevilla plant from a garden store and potted it on the ground. For a year the plant did not show any sign of growth. Even it lost few of its stem. I felt very pity for this plant. But a year later, to my

Hello everyone! Today I am sharing the gerbera blooms which are blooming in my rooftop garden. Its a total bliss to watch the exotic display of the flowers. when ever i come across gerberas in the nearby plant nursery i never fail to add them to my rooftop garden.  Last year i landed up with seven gerbera plants. Two of them were not at all in good condition. I potted them in containers and added some cow dung manure. The plant grew busy and rewarded me with blooms this year. I am glad that i was able to resurrect the plants which were not in a good condition.  Gerberas grow well in early morning sun and shady afternoons. Watering is only needed when the soil dries out.we need to constantly keep a check for pests as the leaves are delights for the caterpillars. Remove the dried leaves and the dead blooms. That's all the plant requires. Go ahead and have a glimpse of the blooms. :) Hope you will enjoy this post. I will be back soon with my next po
