The Jouney from October to February...

Image
Welcome back Readers, We have come to the end of February, but the plants that I had planted somewhere around October for my fall garden are still in bloom. This fall garden was a total success for me. Each time I look at the flowers and the plants I feel all my hard work has been paid off. It seemed very difficult for me at the beginning, but now the plants are taking care of themselves. To my surprise this year there was no pest attack on them at all and the saplings that I had planted have developed into very healthy plants. Every year some of the saplings die because of pest attacks or strong sun rays burn their tender leaves, or even if they survive these conditions they do not grow into healthy plants due to the lack of nutrients in the soil and have a stunted growth which results into less flower and attracting more pests  ultimately affecting my other plants. This year I took care of all the minute things from the beginning. The very first thing that I did was empty

Asiatic lilies, Dahlias and Kalanchoe...

Image
Hello Eveyone, I always wanted to add some Asiatic lilies to my garden. Last year I bought two Asiatic lily plants. The plants did bloom but unfortunately I was not present at my home to cherish their beauty. When I returned home. The flowers had already faded way. I was able to save one of the bulbs for this year. This year I was fortunate enough to even capture them in my camera. This year I have added another four of them to my garden.  The lilies seems to be easy caring plants. The potting mix that I used was my usual recipe soil, cow dung manure, vermicompost and compost in equal ratios. We need to make sure that the potting mix is porous enough for facilitating drainage of excessive water and good air circulation. Watering should be done only when the soil dries out. The plants seems to enjoy full sun. But when the flowers bloom move the plant to an area where they will get some afternoon shade so as to enjoy the flowers for a longer period of time. Fertilize the soil w

Bouquet of Gerberas...

Image
Hello Readers, Yes I know I have many a times posted Gerberas, I had shared some tips and tricks for Gerbera care in my earlier posts. But I can't resist the urge of sharing them again and again. These days my Gerbera plants seems to be extra happy. I have a total of five of these plants. All of them are flowering profusely these days. The pink variety has come up with at least eight blooms and I still find buds appearing from the soil. The foliage has turned greener and the plants looks totally healthy.  I still remember, when I had bought them they seemed very unhealthy and the flowers were also not so much showy and even once these plants suffered severe pests problem. I attempted to repot the plants with my recipe of the potting mix, last year these plants showed good signs of growth and here they are...this year, the flowers just looks splendid and no less than a bouquet of Gerberas. These plants require a bit of your attention and we need to fertilize them well for

Gazania

Image
Hello Everyone! The rising temperature in our place marks the end of the winter season. At around the end September I had started planning for my winter garden. I prepared all my planters and planted the seedlings in October. After a long wait, the seedlings turned into plants and bore miniature buds on them. In no time the buds turned into wonderful flowers. looking at the flowers I knew all my wait and work was paid off. It is a total bliss to look at your plants flourishing all the season round.  Along with the all other plants that i had planted for the winters, The Gazania has really pleased me a lot this season. The plants have displayed a vibrant mix of color this year. Gazania is a very easy caring plant. Since I have already discussed about the potting mix in my previous posts so i am not going into much details about that. Watering should be done generously to these plants but we should make sure that the plant does not sits on water. The plant is ok with the

My recipe for a healthy garden...

Image
Hi Everyone, I went through several website to get the recipe for the perfect potting mix. After several researches I came along some ingredients which when mixed in a ratio results in a healthy potting mix. Potting mix is the most important thing for the plants. Some important characteristics that a potting mix should have are listed in the subsequent lines. The potting mix should be able to hold water and at the same time it should drain out excessive water. It should be rich in nutrients and to be specific NPK. Nitrogen , phosphorus and potassium are the basic building blocks for the garden to flourish, but at the same time the soil should contain some micro nutrients like zinc, calcium, boron magnesium and the list goes on. Another characteristic of the potting soil is porosity not only in terms of water but also proper air circulation must be present to help the roots breath. Besides porosity, the potting mix must be light. Nutrient rich soil helps the plants grow healthy and

Marigolds...

Hi Everyone, Marigolds are the plants which are very easy growing. A winter garden without them is not just complete for me. I planted the saplings of marigolds a month ago using the same kind of potting mix (Cow dung manure and soil in a ratio of 1:1) used for my other plants. The plant needs very little care and produces a lot flowers. These plants enjoy full sun and watering them once in a day will keep them growing well. I used a commercial foliar spray and a recipe (Which i will be sharing soon in my blog) of my own to boost the plants at 21st day after planting them.  Sharing some of the snaps from my garden... I just love the white marigold. marigold marigold marigold marigold marigold marigold marigold Hope you enjoyed the post. See you soon in my next post. Till then stay happy and blessed. Happy Gardening!
