Miracles All Around...

Hello Everyone! Its been really long since my last post. The temperatures were high in this month of May rising up to 42 degree C. Rainfall in this month was a bit of relief for both me and my plants. The celosia that I had planted last winter had almost perished from my garden. But the celosia plant seems to be resurrecting again. The plants must have dropped its seeds in the pot and new plants have come up in the same pots. And this time they have bloomed profusely. Few years ago I had collected some seeds of cocks comb from one of my near relatives. I had lots of plants with small blooms on them. After bearing the flowers, these plants had almost vanished from my garden. But nature has its own play, the plants must have dropped some seeds and here they are again in my garden with bright showy blooms.  The gazania plant seems to have adapted well in the harsh summer temperatures. Every time I visit my home, I often find these flowers in bl...

New Additions in My Garden...

Image
Hi everyone! Welcome back to my blog. This time I have added two new adeniums and a Magnolia Alba to my garden. During my last visit to the local plant store, I was totally taken up by the adeniums they had for sale. I have bought one with red flowers and the other one has white blooms. While buying the adeniums I suddenly came across a mysterious plant with beautiful fragrant flowers. I learned from the owner that it is a Magnolia Alba. I ended up buying the Magnolia Alba too. I already have two adenium plants in my garden. Since I have been growing these plants in my garden for years...I am familiar with the growing conditions that suits best for these plants. I would like to briefly go through some of the tips that i have been using to grow these wonderful adeniums. Soil : The adeniums grow in a kind of coarse mixed soil. I have added sand to the normal soil along with some compost and vermicompost. The soil should be able to drain the excess water out. These plants...

Wonderful Azaleas...

Welcome back readers! In the quest of adding more color to my garden, recently I have acquired two Azalea plants. Azaleas are a bit difficult growers. There are certain things that needs to be taken care of if we add Azaleas to our garden. The first and the foremost requirement of an Azalea plant is the type and quality of potting mix that is being used to grow these plants. I went through a number sites and browsed various pages so as to conclude on the use of the best potting mix required for these plants. Last year I had killed one of my Azalea by choking its root in a poor quality soil. The characteristics that the potting mix should have is it most be porous so as to circulate enough air in between the  roots and provide good drainage to the excessive water, at the same time the soil should be able to store enough moisture. The soil must have enough organic matter. The potting mix that I have used is half part of soil and one part each vermicompost, compost, cow dung manu...

Preparation for My Summer Garden...Growing the seedlings for the Summer...

Image
Hello Readers, Since the Bulb garden is all set for the summer, I am waiting eagerly for the blooms. Meanwhile I have also planted the seedlings of the usual summer plants that is often grown in the months of the summer. I picked up seedlings of Gomphrena, Morning Glory, Tithonia, Rudbeckia, Dwarf Sunflower, Giant Sunflowers, Teddy Bear Sunflower, Zinnia, portulaca, Gaillardia, kochia bush, Cosmos and Balsam from the local stores. The seedlings were immediately transplanted to the pots (using the same potting mixture as discussed in my earlier post) so as to increase its life expectancy. Since the seedlings are too small to bear the after noon sun hence i have decided to keep them under shade. Once they reach a particular height and i am satisfied that they are ready for the full sun i will shift them to my roof top garden. Below are some of the snaps from my garden. Hope you enjoyed the post. I will be back soon wi...
